Gridspertise and Cuculus plan to merge under new brand Neugemacht

Neugemacht will offer a comprehensive digital platform for metering point operation.
  • Neugemacht will offer a comprehensive digital platform for metering point operation that meets the requirements of both basic metering point operators and competitive metering point operators in the German market.
  • By combining Gridspertise’s smart metering infrastructure with Cuculus’ ZONOS IoT platform, neugemacht can provide energy suppliers with all the necessary products and services with the required data – and with an adequate data transmission frequency and a high level of data protection.
  • The brand name neugemacht underlines the ambition to establish a new approach in the industry in order to accelerate network digitization.

Gridspertise S.r.l., a global company that supports distribution system operators in accelerating the digital transformation of electricity grids, and Cuculus GmbH, a German software company specializing in critical infrastructure in the energy supply environment, will work together in the future under the new joint brand neugemacht to meet the specific requirements of the German energy sector. The two companies are joining forces to support various market participants interested in sustainable, flexible and future-oriented electricity use. The overall solution includes all the necessary components such as meters, smart meter gateways (SMGWs), communication, a software platform, installation services, financing and, if desired, operation. In a first step, Gridspertise’s expertise in the extensive introduction of smart meters will be combined with Cuculus’ ZONOS IoT platform. This will provide all the products and services necessary for utilities to deliver the required data at an adequate data transmission frequency and ensure a high level of data protection. Gridspertise’s experience is based on the company’s more than 20 years of activity in the field of grid digitization. The ZONOS IoT platform records several billion meter readings per day. In addition to traditional smart metering solutions for the metering point operators with basic responsibility, neugemacht will also offer solutions for competitive metering point operation throughout Germany. Together with a strong and growing partner network, a complete offering will be created from which e-mobility providers, renewable energy producers, heating and air conditioning manufacturers, submetering companies and energy communities can benefit equally. The neugemacht solutions also aim to improve end customers’ awareness of energy consumption and the use of self-generated energy. In addition, they enable dynamic energy purchasing and trading as well as applications that support building-specific certifications such as BREEM, LEED and DGNB and thus ESG requirements. neugemacht is going to market with a logo that represents the intersection and connection between the digitalization of energy and the smart grids of the future. This underlines the ambition to establish a new approach in the industry.

“Partnering with an innovative local player like Cuculus in combination with our long-standing experience in digitizing the electricity grid through the extensive delivery of smart meters around the world enables a unique new offering that will help accelerate the energy transition in Germany,” said Robert Denda, CEO of Gridspertise. “With neugemacht, both parties are committed to providing innovative metering solutions with a go-to-market mentality that are in line with Gridspertise’s mission to create a new era of resilient and sustainable smart grids.” “We are delighted to have found a strong partner in the German market that will enable us to build a broad partner ecosystem and offer rapid rollouts for our complete Metering-as-a-Service (MaaS) offering,” comments René Böringer, CEO of Cuculus. “It is the ideal constellation to enter the German market at the right time and on the optimal scale to win municipalities and real estate companies as new customers.” Gridspertise and Cuculus will be exhibiting together at E-World 2023 in Essen at stand 2- 412.
